Starting Project Life on a Budget

I am SO excited to finally start my Project Life journey! I’ve been wanting to start for years but I just never got around to it.

What is Project Life?

Created by Becky Higgins, this system is a simple way of archiving your memories. The pages have pockets in different configurations, so that you can display your pictures vertically or horizontally. There are two pocket sizes, 4 x 6 in and 3 x 4 in. The items you need to make a Project Life album are an album, journaling cards, photo pocket pages, your photos and a pen.

There are other companies that sell products that can be used with Project Life and you can also purchase custom journal cards at places like Etsy. I purchased my items at Michaels and Walmart.

Here is what I purchased (not everything I purchased is in the picture):

  • Project Life Album that holds 12 x 12 in pages in Maggie Holmes Edition $8.99
  • Project Life Core Kit – 5th & Frolic Edition  $12.99
  • Project Life Photo Pocket Pages Design A (12 pgs)  $6.99
  • Project Life Photo Pocket Pages Design D  (12 pgs) $4.19 (used a 40% off coupon)
  • We R Memory Keepers Photo Pocket Pages (10 pk) Asst Sizes  $2.99
  • 58 Photos printed using the 1-hour service from Walmart $11.02

Total spent to get started:  $34.18

I plan on getting another Core Kit and some mini kits to mix it up, but for now, the above items will be enough. After placing all of the photos in the album, I used 10 pocket pages (including a front and back cover).

5th & Frolic Core Kit. I love the vintage style and library touches.

My plan is to complete this album with photos of the rest of 2015 and start making an album for previous years. I will probably do one album for each previous year. Starting in 2016, I want to try to do weekly spreads (we will see how that goes). I also want to start buying stickers, stamps and other embellishments but I will try not go crazy decorating since that is why I failed at regular scrapbooking.

Have you ever wanted to try Project Life? Why not start now? Are you already doing it? What are some of your tips, tricks and ideas? I would love to know 🙂
